Modeling Amanda Day 4
Written by Travis Christopher Friday, 25 February 2011 16:24
Okay, So i've missed a couple of days with the blogging of this project, so I'll try to catch you up. I have lots of pictures, from the last couple days, so you can actually see the progression.
At this point I am about 90% done with the modeling process. I still have to add hair, but most of the detail work is done. Wednesday, Sy Dowling gave me a hand building her form out. Having his help drastically cut down the modeling time on the simple basis that it takes a long time to add that much clay to the armature.
Yesterday I spent about 10 hours in the studio fleshing out her dimensions, and doing detail work. I have a little bit more tweaking to do, but she's looking pretty good.
Modeling Amanda Day 1

Big Day today! To start with, I had the Lyndon House Show opening. Congratulations to Doug, Sonni, and Alton for their respective prizes. After that I put in some studio time working on modeling my new sculpture of Amanda
Alright, So I'm trying a relatively new process for me with this work. The plan is to model it lifesize in clay, then make a plaster mold, pour waxes, ram sand molds, then pour it in iron. So i've got the armature finished, and today I started working on the clay. I'm using a combination of modeling and press molding from body castings. It looks a little clunky at the moment, but as I flesh out the rest of the figure, it should come together nicely. I need to have the whole process done by March 12 which doesn't give me a lot of time.
Armature Madness!

Okay... So I got started on my armature today. I hope to finish before 9:00 so that I can go hear Ernesto Gomez play tonight at Max Canada. We'll see how it goes.
Ashley and I have decided on a date and title for our exit show, it will be April 29th from 7-11 at Stan Mullins' studio. We are going to call it Anthropologos: Speaking of Man. I am in the process of creating show cards, and a facebook event page today.
Die Grinder Death
Written by Travis Christopher Wednesday, 16 February 2011 12:07
My die grinder died on me last night. I've taken it apart and blown it out, but to no avail. It still doesn't work. Happily, Lowes swapped it out for me so I'm up and running again.
On another note. I'm in the process of updating my website, I'm sure you can tell. I should have everything up and running soon. I'm adding this blog section to keep everyone updated on my current projects. I worked on chasing bronze hands last night, until the grinder broke on me. The plan for today is to get an armature built to model my life size sculpture of Amanda Gerlaugh on. Of course, I'm already behind on that project.
